ANNUAL REVIEWS

An especially valuable form of secondary literature is exemplified by the Annual Review of . . . series. Recent volumes are available online - full text and searchable. Older volumes of many of the titles are available in print, in the Science Library. Those holdings are indicated by a call number following the title in the table below.

Articles in the Annual Review series are comprehensive, dependable, and offer sizeable bibliographies; if you can find an article on your topic, it will probably point you to most of the relevant primary literature which had appeared up to its publication date, and give you a firm basis for understanding the evolution of research traditions in that subfield. But (alas) not all topics are to be found. If you get nothing useful, try a more general search.
